As a member of the Sunshine Coast Trails Society we are active in maintaining trails across Halfmoon Bay. We also continue to advocate for new trails and recreational spaces to protect the local environment and for the enjoyment of the community. Our trails program also includes training and workshops for our volunteers.
Smuggler Cove & Douglas-fir Ecosystems
In 2011 we submitted proposals for an expansion of Smuggler Cove Provincial Park to the BC Ministry of Environment. All of the old growth Douglas-fir forest types on the coastal plain of southern BC are on the Provincial Ministry of Environment’s list of rare and endangered ecosystems. The Coastal Douglas-fir Biogeoclimatic Zone is a unique collection of ecosystems in limited pockets along British Columbia’s south coast.
Provincial Trails
Recreation Sites and Trails BC (RSTBC) is the Provincial government program responsible for authorizing recreation on Crown Lands. Under a 10 year partnership agreement, authority to manage some sanctioned trails was assigned to the Sunshine Coast Trails Society.
Sanctioned trails managed by HBES volunteers:
- Little Knives
- Datsun Alley
- Roller Coaster
- Missing Link
- Gord’s Grunt
- Pump-it-up
- Truman Loop
HBES volunteers also look after the unsanctioned trails between Highway 101 and Redrooffs Road.

SCRD Trails
Homesite Creek Recreation Site trails are managed through a Memorandum of Understanding with the SCRD. The site features beautiful trails and scenic waterfalls, with the trail network extending beyond the Recreation Site to meet Brooks Road, and connects with the adjacent Truman Loop trails.
